Sade Kahra, born in Stockholm 1974, is a visual artist with a Master’s degree in Photography from the University of Art and Design Helsinki 2000 and a teacher’s competence from Åbo Akademi University Vasa 2013. Kahra has held 37 solo exhibitions and participated in around fifty joint exhibitions in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, France, Greece, Mexico, USA, India and Benin and she has worked in a dozen stipend and artist in residence programs throughout the world. Together with cabinetmaker Tuulia Penttilä, the art & design product Image cabinet was launched in 2007. Kahra’s first book ”Born to sauna” was published in spring 2014. Since 2013, Kahra has been the Executive Director of Photographic Centre Peri in Turku.

Sade Kahra’s photographs question the sur-reality of events and seek to detect the physical and mental characteristics of the human being. Of Finnish origin, the artist is enmeshed in her culture. Photography, sensitive to light, allows her to experiment, to paint and write with this material and from this, to make up for the absence of light. In her photographs, Sade Kahra analyses the consequences and aims to visualise the state of mind, influenced by the space and the culture, of a well-defined territory.
